FRAGMENTS

In the silence
following his leaving,
I stand outside
the lonely door
in the stillness
of a fragile night
wondering what to do
with the fragments.

A thousand hopes and dreams
he left crumbled
on my doorsteps,
and as I watch
his red tail lights dimming
in the distance,
my heart cries:
why did he have to leave?
Why couldn't the pieces fit?
