I REMEMBER YOU

Today I walked upon the earth
where we once loved.
I lived again the happiness we shared
when we picked a pine cone
from our tree.

Silent tears fell upon the ground
as I remembered you.
The thoughts we shared
came tumbling through my mind,
and suddenly I felt like a child
lost in a darkened forest.
You had gone away
in the spring of long ago,
for reasons we could not ignore.

Today I wondered if you missed me,
or if your new life
had blotted the memories.
I do not believe that time
has erased me from your mind,
because love still lives
inside my heart,
and what we shared
will surely never die.

When I leave this world,
on my grave
let them place a pine cone.
