LETTER TO A SOLDIER

I ache for you tonight and yearn to see
Your face, to feel your gentle, loving touch.
I miss you, dearest darling, oh, so much.
I long to hear you laugh again with me,
For nowhere can I find a cause for glee.
I want to lean upon your strength, to clutch
You close, to use you as my faithful crutch.
I need you more than ever now, to be
My helper, but I will be brave for you,
My love, 'til you come running down the lane.
Then I will know this hateful war is o'er,
And skies of gray will once again turn blue.
We both shall know the end of battle's pain
And hold each other as we did before.
