I closed my heart to everyone;
I wanted to be free.
I had no time to be involved --
Too busy, don't you see?

But then one day a tragic fire
Claimed home and all I had.
Upon the streets I found myself,
Alone and very sad.

Some kindly folks then took me in
And gave me food and dress,
But most of all they gave me love
To help me through my stress.

They opened up their home to me
And showed me how to live.
From them I learned one can't be free
Until he learns to give.
